About us

WHO WE ARE

Kisumu Disabled Self Help Group has been rebranded. Our identity, strategies and focus area remain the same. The reason for rebranding is because we realized a while back that we’d grown away from our original status as a self help group into a more vibrant and bigger organization. We were no longer the small and confined self help group we started out as, so we needed to update our brand to match our new status as a community based organization with a much bigger mandate, larger network and wider programme coverage area.  As such, Kisumu Disabled Self help Group (KIDSEG) was re-born.

Kisumu Disabled Self help Group with acronym KDSHG now known as Kisumu Disabled Self help Group with acronym KIDSEG was registered as a community development organization, non-partisan, non-political, non-profit making organization based in western Kenya. KIDSEG started its operations beginning of 2003 as a non-profit community based organization.   We recognize that successful community initiatives sponsored locally or internationally depend on an enabling system that builds community capacity. An Board of 5 members manages the Organization.  The Board composition includes members who are recognized for their leadership in their respective fields of activity.

The organization works closely with the relevant government ministries at all levels, other NGO’s/CBO’s, Aid and development agencies whose interest concerns promotion and improvement of quality of life for men and women in rural and urban poor communities. Since inception the organization has been able to implement the following projects:  civic education and awareness programs, community health projects and income generating projects.

KIDSEG engages young people with disabilities in social entrepreneurship in which we integrate livelihood into health efforts. We train these young people in business and technical skills, mentoring them into business venture then providing them with seed funds for start up businesses or boost the existing ones. During these trainings, we also build their capacity in HIV/AIDS/RH.
